Disney Soccer Showcase Acceptance

Congratulations to the GSA 95 Phoenix Red team who have been accepted into the Disney Soccer Showcase again this year. The tournament is from Dec 27-30, 2010 in Orlando FL. At this point, we still are unaware of which group we will be in or of any information regarding other teams or schedules, all we know is we are in the tournament.

Yesterday, I received an email regarding team accomodations. I assume all the other teams accepted received the exact same email and are all attempting to block rooms for their teams. The sooner we book our rooms, the better selection and price we will have. My guess is the hotels will book up very quickly in the next few days and I would like to go ahead and block our rooms ASAP.

We have a choice from the Best Western at $79/night all the way up to the Lake Buena Vista at $209/night and many choices in between. The typical rates seem to range between $120-150 per night and I will do my best to find us the most reasonable rate at at a high end hotel chain as close to the park as I can. Here is what I need to know from each of you;

1. Please let me know if you will need a room.

2. How many people will be staying in your room.

3. How many beds (i.e., 1 King, 2 doubles, foldout sofa, etc)

4. I assume everyone will arrive on 26-Dec and depart on 30-Dec, but if you want to arrive sooner or depart later, let me know and I can extend the room.

As soon as I get this information from everyone, I will start the reservation process and let everyone know what is going and what additional information is required (i.e., Credit Card, Frequent Stayer #s, etc).

September Fees

The earlier fee analysis that we sent out had September fees at $130. We had 15 players at that time. Since we have at least 16 and maybe 17, the fees will go down. We will go ahead and adjust September down to $100. I will update the estimate for the year later in the month and hopefully the future months will also come down. Please pay by September 20th.

We have a few a little behind on fees. If you are behind in fees, please try to catch up this week.

Korgi and Keller, you have a $35 overpayment from August, so you will just owe $65 for September. Cohen and Booth are already paid in full for September.

Atlanta Cup Schedule is out

Also, note first game is at 8AM. We will adhere to normal protocol. Arrive 45 minutes prior to game time. Warm ups will start 30 minutes prior to game. Wear white training shirts for wam ups as usual. Austin should be the only one without one (hasn't come in yet). Bring all pieces of uniform as always.

GSA Field Closings

Folks,

Please sign up for the free "STATUS ME" service that GSA provdies to be notified of field closings. This will send a text message to your phone in the event the fields are closed, or re-opened in some cases. A great idea so everyone is updated as soon as possible. This is how I am notified. Shortly after I receive this text, I'll be in touch with Ricardo to see if the team is still meeting (for fitness, film study, etc) or not. I will follow up with a text to everyone once I get the verdict.

With rain in the forcecast tonight, if fields are closed, we will make up the practice tomorrow from 7-30 - 9:30, so don't look for a follow up email from me today.

Practice time change for the rest of the season

Starting next week, practice will now be from 7:30 - 9:30 on Tuesday and Thursday only. Red practice shirts should be worn on Tuesday, Black on Thursday. This change should allow for maximum attendance and participation and free up an extra day for other activites. Please make every effort to be on time so that we fully utilize the 2 hours. Players should be ready to practice at 7:30, meaning fully dressed and ready to go.

Practice this week will be from 7:30 - 9 on Crossroads. Please bring flats and cleats to practice from now on. Arrive in flats. Normal practice time of 8 - 9:30 will commence next week. On another note, shin guards must be worn at all times when on the practice field for soccer related activities. New team policy is no shin guards, no practice. We have to keep the boys from themselves. Shin guards are not necessary for fitness drills.

T-Shirt Sales Volunteers

Scott Grassmyer has confirmed we will have T-Shirts available to sell starting this Saturday. I will plan to stay until around 3pm after our game Saturday morning, if someone else can cover the say from 2-5pm.

I will have the sign-up schedule available at the game on Saturday. If everyone can volunteer for at least on 3 hour window over the next few weeks, we should be able to raise quite a bit of money toward the Portugal trip.

Portugal Trip & Fund Raising

First of all, I am just asking the tough questions here, but Scott Grassmayer has brought up a very good point that I think we should all consider seriously.

We have all agreed that Spring Break 2010 is unacceptable due to short notice, etc, however Scott's point is that even if we move the trip to Spring Break 2011, which Spring Break will we choose? The boys on our team certainly are from multiple different school districts and all have varying Spring Break schedules. We would certainly have to get Nuno's guidance, but a Summer 2010 trip to Portugal following State Cup/Regionals/ODP etc (second half of July 2010 timeframe) might work out for everyone?

In addition, Scott has offered to personally fund the initial purchase of GSA Spirit Wear T-Shirts that will most likely be available by the end of this week. Obviously, we will want to start selling them ASAP so we can get Scott his money back and start the fund raising process for the team. Steve and Wendy are working on the budgetary side, but I volunteered to put together a schedule for everyone to have the opportunity to sell GSA Spiritwear over the next 4-6 weeks. I wil have a sign-up schedule available on Saturday for the AFC game.

Portugal trip for 2011

Nuno is fine with the trip for 2011, so we'll go with that. Scott already has a great idea of selling GSA Ts and Polo shirts and has cleared with Larry. Albert, Steve, Wendy, and John B are spearheading our fundraising efforts, so let's funnel all ideas and efforts through that team.

Atlanta Cup Schedule is out

Website updated with schedule and link added under Quick Links as well. We get Brentwood Premiere (TN), Birmingham United (AL), and FC ALLIANCE (TN). If we win division, we'd most likely get AFC, if we get the wildcard, we'd most likely get Concorde Elite. Brentwood beat us 5-4 in ATL Cup last year, and that's our first game.

Possible Team Trip to Portugal

There will be an informational meeting covering all aspects of a possible trip to Portugal for the team over Spring Break, 2010. Please plan on attending. We will have a speaker who'll explain and handles the entire process, including travel documents, flight arrangements, accommodations, fund raising, etc. This gentleman handled the trip for The current 17 boys who went with Nuno 2 years ago. He'll be able to answer any questions you may have, and will have a DVD to show for those that want to hang around for it.

Game/Uniform/Tournament Information for Season

As a rule, all pieces of the uniform should be brought to every game.
Team policy is to arrive at the fields 45 minutes before game time in warm up shirt and appropriate uniform shorts and socks
Team warm up will start 30 minutes before kickoff
Uniform is specified from top to bottom (Shirt/Shorts/Socks)
Home Uniform kit is White/Red/White
Away Uniform kit is Red/White/Red
Championship game uniform kit is Red/Red/Red
Above rules apply to tournaments and regular games
At tournaments, we'd like to have the boys travel together via convoy to ensure that all of them arrive at the venue together. We may need up to 5 volunteers with large vehicles to transport the boys to the venue at each road tournament.
Transportation from the fields is the parents' responsibility
